Road accident refers to any accident involving at least a road vehicle occurring on the road in the view of the public resulting in the death of persons. The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in their recent statistics assert that private cars dominate road accidents. About 7515 was the estimated number of private vehicles involved in an accident as at January to December in the year 2017? Commercial vehicles in review of the statistics were known to have the lower number of road accidents in the same year. This academic write discourse is to make the public aware of road safety tips.
The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) conducted successive campaigns to curb gory road accidents. In battling road accidents, the media also played an important role in educating Ghanaian citizens on the causes and effects of road accidents.
- Obey the rules of the road and carry your driver’s license with
- Check the temperature, brake, oil and sound of the car before you drive out.
- Drive at a safe speed and always observe speed limit
- Always wear your seat belt and ensure your passenger do same.
- Do not drink and drive.
- Do not use phone and other electronic devices while driving.
- Be aware of what other drivers around you are doing, and expect the unexpected.
- Assume other motorists will do something crazy and you are prepared to avoid it.
- Don’t allow children to climb or fight around in the car, they should be buckled in their seat at all times.
- Be cautious when changing lanes.
- Watch out for pedestrians
Driving takes more effort and experience than drinking alcohol because pedestrians do not come with airbags. Safety isn’t a slogan it’s a way of life, don’t text and drive.
